How To Help Us

Volunteering

At Bread For Life, we have a lot going on almost every day of the week. There’s tremendous preparation and coordination that goes on to get ready for food distribution to our Neighbors on Wednesdays.

With that in mind, we can always use extra hands. Volunteers are especially appreciated on Wednesdays during operation hours or to help pick up donations on other days. If you have a group looking for a community service project, we would love to arrange a work day for you.

We also accept volunteers who need community service hours and we appreciate the time they spend with us.

Donations

The Bread For Life Food Pantry is an all-volunteer organization with 501(c3) status.

That means we have no paid employees so 100% of our donation goes to helping our neighbors. Your donation as tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Here’s information about the Food Pantry Tax Credit (FPT) - Donors (individuals, corporations, or trusts) can receive a credit equal to 50% of their cash or food supply donations, up to $2,500 per taxpayer per year.  See your tax preparer with any questions.

Our pantry gladly accepts donations of nonperishable food items. Our ‘most wanted’ list includes family sized items of the following:

Canned Green Beans
Canned Corn
Canned Mixed Vegetables
Boxed Macaroni and Cheese
Canned tuna
Canned chicken
Canned spaghetti sauce (Please no glass jars.)
Peanut butter
Canned pasta
Soup

We also greatly appreciate monetary donations, which allows us to purchase food to stock our shelves.

It’s easiest to donate during operating hours on Wednesdays. We are open every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. except for the last Wednesday of the month, when we are open from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Other arrangements for food or monetary donations can be made by giving us a call.

Company match programs - Many larger employers have philanthropy programs where they will match employee contributions (of either volunteer time or money). Since we have 501(c3) status, we would likely be eligible for a company match program if you would like to make routine donations through your employer.

Loyalty programs - Kroger is an example of a local company that allows you to select a charity for them to donate to when you use their loyalty card. In this case, there is no cost to you, but Kroger will donate based on what you spend. To find out more you can look up Kroger Community Rewards.

If you happen to know of similar opportunities with loyalty programs, we would love to hear about them.
